RobotX24 Journey

Since RobotX 2022, we have been diligently working to refine and enhance our vehicle in preparation for RobotX 2024. Our efforts can be categorized into three main phases:

Phase One: Software and Flaw Detection (September – December 2023)

We conducted extensive testing with the skeleton drone, focusing not only on evaluating the software stack but also on identifying current flaws and areas for improvement.

Phase Two: Fabrication and Testing of Jellyfish 2.0 Iteration 1 (January – February 2024)

The first iteration of Jellyfish 2.0 was fabricated and tested to assess whether the identified flaws had been corrected and to further refine the design in preparation for the next iteration.

Phase Three: Optimization and Development of Jellyfish 2.0 (Mid - Late 2024)

The new and improved Jellyfish 2.0 brought significant advancements, including improved control, enhanced stability, and more precise flight patterns and trajectories.

Testing Jellyfish 2.0 Iteration 1

We moved on to our first iteration of the Jellyfish in this iteration and found out quite a few flaws that needed to be fixed. We spent the next few months refabricating the frame and shell in preparation for the second iteration

Successful Flight Test?

The drone managed to take off today! However, the drone crashed into a tree due to strong winds and was partially destroyed. Back to the drawing board to get it fixed.

First Flight Test Again

The repaired drone now not only could take off, but was also a lot more stable compared to the previous times. We spent this period ensuring that the various movement were up to standard

AprilTag Detection Testing

Today, we tested to see if the drone was able to detect the AprilTag and land. It seemed to be partially working. However, the reflection would affect the landing and cuz the drone to oscillate in the air and prevent it from landing.
