Since RoboSub 2023, we have been making changes to the BBAUV all in preparation for the upcoming RoboSub 2025. The following details the various stages:
Phase One: Engine Restart (End 2024)
After RobotX 2024, we took a short break before we resuming work for RoboSub 2025. While new electrical and mechanical components were being designed and fabricated, the software team took this downtime to finalise the porting of the software stack from ROS 1 -> ROS 2.
Phase Two: Reassessing Capabilities (January 2025 - May 2025)
We deployed BBAUV 4.1 once again for pool tests to not only allow our newer members to better familiarise themselves with the vehicle, but also as a means to check that all the original systems were functioning. This also served as a means to reassess what we were lacking and had to ensure in the new AUV design.
Phase Three: BBAUV 4.5 Deployment (June 2025 Onwards)
After months of development, we would deploy BBAUV 4.5 which would feature a fresh hull, new actuators, as well as completely revamped electrical and software architecture. This vehicle would serve as a stepping stone and testbed for key features that would be implemented in our new flagship AUV, BBAUV 5.0 that is set to launch in 2026.
